Belize Marine Rescue and Education Center

"Collaborating with VIVIDARCH on the Belize Marine  Life Rescue and Education Center has been nothing short of inspiring. From day one, they fully embraced our vision of creating a space that not only rehabilitates marine life but also serves as a hub for education and community engagement. Their thoughtful design approach has maximized the potential of our site, ensuring that the center integrates seamlessly with its natural surroundings while fulfilling its critical mission.

The team’s unwavering commitment to sustainability has been evident at every stage of the project. Thanks to their expertise, creativity, and dedication, we are well on our way to establishing a world-class facility, and one that will stand as a proud symbol of marine conservation for Belize and the wider region.
" - Jamal Galvez, Belize Program Coordinator, Clearwater Marine Aquarium Research Institute

The Belize Marine Rescue and Education Center, designed by VIVIDARCH, is a groundbreaking initiative situated in the heart of Gales Point Manatee. Spearheaded by renowned marine conservationist Jamal Galvez, this facility represents a significant advancement in Belize's commitment to marine wildlife preservation, particularly focusing on the endangered Antillean manatee.

Gales Point Manatee, known for its abundant manatee population and pristine natural habitats, was selected as the ideal location for the center. The village's unique position—midway between the northern and southern regions of Belize—offers strategic accessibility and direct proximity to the Gales Point Wildlife Sanctuary, facilitating the immediate release of rehabilitated marine animals into their natural environment.

The center is envisioned as more than just a rehabilitation facility; it aims to serve as a hub for education, research, and community engagement. By providing educational programs and facilitating groundbreaking research, the center aspires to cultivate a new generation of conservationists and raise public awareness about the challenges faced by marine species.

Construction is scheduled to commence in January 2025, with completion anticipated by December of the same year. This project is a collaborative effort, supported by the Government of Belize, the Ministry of Tourism, and various local and international partners, reflecting a unified commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable development.

The Belize Marine Rescue and Education Center stands as a testament to the power of community-driven initiatives and innovative design in fostering environmental conservation and education.

Sports Infrastructure

In 2021, the Football Federation of Belize, on the advice of FIFA, started working on the Phase “Zero” project for the engagement of the services of an architectural firm for the creation of a well-organized and homogenous infrastructure end product that originates from a master plan and design for the FFB.

In May 2021, the FFB Executive approved the Phase “Zero” project, and in September 2021, VIVIDARCH and their team of engineers won the bid to do the programming, master plan, preliminary designs, engineering, and drawings for the FFB facility.

The project encompasses the design of a new stadium addition building, a technical center, and dormitories, the renovation of the existing dorm building into a conference center, a futsal arena, and a maintenance building as well as site infrastructure.

Urban Space

The firm won another international competitive bid (ICB) to design the Fort Point Pedestrian Walk, which included the renovation of Memorial Park. Our design blended modern simplicity with cultural depth, honoring Belize’s Mayan and Colonial heritage through thoughtful, contemporary forms and elements.

The space was designed to be more than just a walkway. With bold, unconventional features, it invites visitors of all ages to pause, explore, and connect. The design aspired to create a vibrant, public space for recreation and open new opportunities for local vendors and small businesses.

It’s especially rewarding to see the community embrace it. Newlyweds, graduates, and artists often use the park as a backdrop to mark their milestones and express their creativity. Once the landscaping design has been executed, this project could realize its goal of being an oasis in an urban setting.

Residence

Designing this home in southern Belize was a true joy. The unexpected blend of clean, modern lines with a traditional thatch roof created a playful yet refined design that pays tribute to the region’s rich Mayan and Garifuna heritage.

Carefully positioned to harness the prevailing breezes, the house uses passive cooling through well-placed windows and a central breezeway—an example of how thoughtful design can be both elegant and practical.

This project reflects our passion for innovative, grounded solutions that respond to culture, climate, and context. If you're visiting Placencia, you might spot this unique home just off the main road into the peninsula.
